An inner-eastern Melbourne suburb, Alphington borders a large recreational and passive green belt which flanks the Yarra on the metropolitan stretch of the river’s journey from the ranges to Port Phillip Bay.
Alphington lies largely in the City of Darebin whose 53sqkm are home to almost 135,000 people, making it the largest and most populous municipality in Greater Melbourne.
